Why Plan Shade Wiring Early?
Motorized shades are easiest, cleanest, and most flexible when they are planned before drywall. Early planning allows wiring, power locations, shade pockets, window trim details, and control options to be coordinated before the home is finished.
Even if you do not install shades in every room right away, prewiring key windows can keep future options open. This is especially helpful for large windows, hard-to-reach glass, water front and mountain views, media rooms, and spaces where privacy and sunlight matter every day.
Battery Powered vs. Wired Shades
Battery-powered shades can be a great solution for finished rooms, smaller projects, or windows where wiring is not practical. They offer flexibility and can be added without opening walls. Some Lutron battery powered shades have over five years of battery life!
Wired shades are usually the cleaner long-term choice for new construction, remodels, large homes, and frequently used rooms. They avoid battery maintenance, support larger shade applications, and integrate beautifully with lighting control.
